Nestled in the mountains of San Juan National Forest, Vallecito Lake is an outdoor playground all year round and provides a great getaway for anyone who wants to explore Durango, just a stone’s throw away from Lone Wolf Cabins. Get an overview of each seasons’ offerings below!
Spring brings a flurry of life to Vallecito as the lake thaws, aspens bud, and wildflowers begin to peek up at passerby. Spring is a great time of year to hike, horseback ride, or pull out your fishing rod.
Escape the heat and summer by the shores of Vallecito Lake. Spend your days boating on the reservoir, throw your hook, line, and sinker out into the water, and bring in rainbow trout, brown trout, and norther pike. Take off on an ATV tour or summit one of the San Juan’s beautiful peaks.
As the days start to get shorter, the aspens put on their annual color show in the surrounding mountians. Make it a hunting trip and fill tags for nearby Elk, Deer, Bear, Turkey and more.
With relatively mild winters, prepare for snow-filled adventures aboard snowmobiles or at either of the nearby ski resorts. Pull out the ice rod and augers for tournament-worthy ice fishing on the lake.
